JONATHAN CLIFTON was born in England.
He studied at The New College of Speech
and Drama in London and has enjoyed a varied career as an actor, writer and director.
Jonathan has performed on the London stage
and in broadcasting.
He has written comedy scripts for British
radio and television, composed music for
films and he is the author of a number of musicals, including "Amy" (1985) and
'If it wasn't for the houses in between"
(1978)
Jonathan Clifton has worked with
Dylan Thomas' daughter, Aeronwy Thomas, on programs of her father's work, some of which Jonathan set to music. In 1978 he composed a new musical score for Bertold Brecht's
"The Caucasian Chalk Circle" and appeared
in the national tour, as the
singer/storyteller.
Jonathan Clifton has a passion for
Shakespeare, and in the UK has appeared
in many works, including: ' As You Like It',
"Hamlet" and "Henry V". He contributed to
the book, "Drama Skills"
(Barrie & Jenkins 1976) and is the co-author, with Greta Colson, of 'Enchanted Island',
a book/tape pack for schools based on Shakespeare's 'The Tempest'.
Jonathan Clifton's album 'Best Friends', a collection of songs and stories for children (1996) continues to be a top seller and
is now available on CD.
Squeezebox Productions is planning
a series of audio-books based on
classic British literature.
The first,"Treasure Island" is now in
pre-production.
