Joette started playing folk guitar as a teenager, studied classical guitar in college, and eventually became a Suzuki classical guitar teacher. She performed at coffee shops and street fairs in Pennsylvania as part of the flute and guitar duo, Amarylis. She moved to Florida in 2009 where she became the founding president of the Treasure Coast Classical Guitar Society. In 2012 she began performing instrumental music with Taafkab Etalia as the Joette's Strings Duo. In 2013 she started the The Sunset Folk, a group of a dozen or so musicians that plays at folk music jams on the Treasure Coast of Florida. In 2014 she began performing folk music with Jane Appel as the duo Morning Glory.
