Stay away! The open Mic was well enough. Went well, got a call and was asked to play a show the following week. Was actually very excited. However, I should've got the hint when the first question I was asked was how many people I could bring, and was told I wouldn't get paid unless I bring certain amount of people (not too big a deal, standard in Hollywood) When I asked if there was anything I should know, I got a smart answer; "well you need to know your songs, etc". When I got there for the gig, a bar patron coming to check out the artists was told, verbatim, "You gotta buy a drink if your gonna stay." He replied "ok, just one drink?" to which Mike (yeah, I'm calling you out Mike) said "well, two if you stay longer" with no sarcasm or joking in his voice. Then, my African American friend came, and Mike insisted he pay $9 to watch. To which my friend said, "the last guy just had to buy a drink, I'll get a drink" and Mike said "the bar doesn't concern me, that's separate." So besides not telling me (when I asked what I should know) that every person I bring would apparently have to pay $9 at the door, its apparently standard for them to pick and choose who pays a cover. Didn't play, ended up leaving after that. I work at a bar, and don't like to chastise my own kind, but please don't patronize this establishment!

I've been going to the Pig for 3 years and no one named Mike Rofé has ever hosted. Current host is Mike Mazochi.

Also, I've never heard it called the "West Coast Songwriters Open Mike". It's comedy and music.

As of 4-13-11, the show starts at 7pm with a hard stop at 9pm. Cover is $5. If you can't afford $5, you should consider postponing your showbiz career until you get your life together. The line to sign up forms in the parking lot on McCadden. The order you get there is the order you get to pick your spot. Honor system. Separate lists for comedy and music.

Hey, FYI: I heard that this open mic is now starting at 7 and ending at 9. I'm not 100% on this but this is what the host said last week. Just a heads up for folks!

? Hi there! I know the P&W has a piano parked in the hallway… Is it available to be played at the open mics?
